Dear Village Family,
Our school year is entering the home stretch! April and May are filled with wonderful experiences for our students, from our Spring Musical, Mary Poppins Jr.®, to our 8th Grade class trip to Washington, DC. to the zoo, Kennedy Space Center, camping field trips to graduations, 5th Grade Exhibition and promotions, to name a few.
As we finish the year, we are starting a process of weekly looking back to live forward with purpose. Søren Kierkegaard stated, “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”
Reflection is an IB Learner Profile trait where “we thoughtfully consider the world and our own ideas and experience. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development.” In these final ten weeks, each Friday, we are setting aside a reflection hour in our Kindergarten to 8th Grade classrooms from 2:00 pm to 2:55 pm for review, organization, and journaling. Our teachers will connect with each student on their work and evidence of learning for the week. Together the class will work to organize and prepare their personal space and classroom for the coming week. Lastly, each student will work on the skill of journaling (drawing, Toddle, writing) through reflective and forward-looking prompts: what am I grateful for this week, what were my strengths and weaknesses this past week, what are my goals for next week, what do I need to do to accomplish my goals, who will I help this weekend or next week?
As we reflect and continue to grow together over the last trimester of the school year, let us run with endurance the race God has set before us; keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion of our faith. Hebrews 12:1-2
In His Grace,
Derek Cummings
